The Veterans One-stop Center of WNY makes no guarantee and is not responsible for undocumented or altered claims inconsistent with our records.

You will receive either an email or paper thank-you for your donation that includes the information you need for tax deduction purposes.

All donations stay in the 8 county region of Western New York, including Erie, Niagara, Genesee, Wyoming, Orleans, Cattaraugus, Allegany, and Chautauqua counties.

What percentage of my donation goes directly toward programming?

At the Veterans One-stop Center of WNY, one of our core values is Veterans First, so as an agency we strive to keep administrative and fundraising costs at a reasonable level. Based on our audited financial statement for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2014, 86.5 percent of total expenditures went directly toward programming for WNY Veterans and military family members.

Do you have a matching gifts program?

Yes, we do accept matching gifts. Matching gifts are a great way to increase the impact of your donation. Many employers will match gifts made to our organization, and in many cases you can double your donation just by filling out a simple form with your employer. Please check with your employer to see if they match employee contributions.

How can I donate my car, home, or other property?

We do not currently accept donations in the form of personal property. Donations of this variety can potentially raise significant practical and legal problems. If you have questions regarding a potential contribution, please contact us directly at veteransfirst@vocwny.org.

Can I donate clothing?

Through our Suits for Troops initiative, we gladly accept business/business casual attire in new or gently-used condition. We maintain a clothing closet that is accessible for Veterans and their immediate family members on site. Any female clothing we receive is sent to one of our community service provider partners, Dress for Success Buffalo. Clothing we receive that does not meet our standards is sent to Goodwill Industries of WNY.

Can I donate other household goods or medical equipment?

Due to space and staffing limitations, we currently accept household goods or medical equipment only by exception. If you are interested in making a donation of this nature, please contact us directly at veteransfirst@vocwny.org.

Can I make a restricted gift to the Veterans One-stop Center of WNY?

The Veterans One-stop Center of WNY does not accept restricted gifts under $1,000 unless approved by our Development Committee. For more information, contact us at veteransfirst@vocwny.org.

 Local Fundraising Events

Can I host a fundraising event to support the Veterans One-stop Center of WNY?

Absolutely! Our team is happy to work with you in setting up your own event. Please contact us directly at veteransfirst@vocwny.org to get started.

Can the Veterans One-stop Center of WNY issue a receipt for my event’s sponsors?

The Veterans One-stop Center of WNY cannot issue tax receipts for your event’s sponsors, nor can we accept sponsor funds and funnel those funds back to the event organizer.

Can the Veterans One-stop Center of WNY issue a receipt for donated goods or services to my fundraiser?

The Veterans One-stop Center of WNY cannot issue tax receipts for the value of an individual’s time or goods or services donated to your fundraising event, as these items are not deductible under federal tax law and therefore ineligible for a tax receipt. We can only acknowledge donations written to the Veterans One-stop Center of WNY directly.

Can I accept donations and then write the Veterans One-stop Center of WNY a check from my personal account?

We do not recommend using this method. If you deposit donations directly into your personal account, the IRS will consider that income and your account and taxable. Also, because the check is from your account, we would be unable to recognize the individual donors tax receipts for their gifts.

What should I do if I receive cash donations?

Please do not mail us cash if at all possible! Have cash donors (or yourself) transfer the cash into a cashier’s check. Be sure to include donor information with the donation so a receipt may be sent!

Will Veterans One-stop Center of WNY attend my event?

Whenever possible, the Veterans One-stop Center of WNY is happy to attend events to set up a table or to support the event. Please contact our team at veteransfirst@vocwny.org as far in advance as possible so we can do our best to be there.

Can I get Veterans One-stop Center of WNY materials for my fundraising event?

Absolutely–please contact veteransfirst@vocwny.org to discuss further.
