Sergeant Major (SGM) Robert A. Wolter Jr. (USA, Ret.), enlisted in the United States Army in October 1995 after graduating from Livonia Central High School, New York. He completed his Army Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training and Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia as an Airborne Infantryman. He was then assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In June 2000, he transferred to the New York Army National Guard (NYARNG) and was assigned to Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry (A Co - 2-108th IN), NYARNG in Geneseo, New York. In December 2003 he was hired as a full-time Active Guard-Reserve (AGR) and was promoted to Squad Leader in A Co - 2-108th IN. He later served as a Weapons Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant in the same company. Upon promotion to First Sergeant in May 2014, he was assigned to The Fighting 69th as First Sergeant for Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry (1-69th IN), NYARNG while also taking over as the full-time AGR Battalion Operations NCO for 1-69th IN in New York, New York. In January 2018, he was promoted to E-9, Sergeant Major, and transferred back to the 2nd Battalion 108th Infantry (2-108th IN) where he served as the Battalion Operations NCO until 21 Sep. 22, when he retired just shy of 27 years of service.
