Your Peer Support Specialist
Dave Hanselman is a father and husband. Graduating high school from Waterloo in 1987, he joined the Army to figure out what to do with his life. As a young man from a small town, it opened up a whole new world for him – the challenges, successes and failures, made deep and lasting impacts. After 4 years he left to go to college, but after a couple months of civilian life, missing the camaraderie (and needing the money) he served another 4 years in the Army Reserves. After that, he spent the next several years studying philosophy and religion, eventually serving as a pastor to several small rural faith communities. For several years he volunteered as a chaplain at the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford, NY where he rediscovered the camaraderie, the sense of belonging, that comes from spending time with other Veterans.
Returning home to Seneca County, he feels honored and excited at the opportunity to be part of the PFC Dwyer Program offering a variety of free events for Veterans and their families. His passion is simply spending time with other Veterans – casual conversation or deep conversation, fun adventures or misadventures, it all works towards creating a caring community.
