We believe our veterans’ stories are a powerful testament to the programs and services we provide. We encourage you to watch or read the stories below and see the impact of your support in action.

A Veteran’s Path to Healing through Scuba Diving

Hillary’s journey is a powerful reminder of what connection and opportunity can do. When she first came to the Veterans One-stop Center, chronic pain, arthritis, and isolation made scuba feel impossible. But with support from our Peer Support team and fellow Veterans, she stepped into the water, regained her confidence, and found a calm she hadn’t felt in years.

She completed her training, joined us on our Alexandria Bay trip, and is now a certified diver, crediting the water with changing her life. We’re honored to be part of her journey and proud to support Veterans as they rediscover their purpose.

JAMIE’S STORY

Finding Connection After Loss

Jamie’s story is a powerful reminder of how connection and support can help Veterans heal after loss. After the sudden passing of her husband and significant health challenges, she found herself isolated and searching for a way back into the world.

Through the Staff Sergeant Fox Suicide Prevention Program at the Veterans One-Stop Center, along with peer support and wellness programs, Jamie found familiar faces, regained a sense of calm, and rebuilt her confidence. Today, she credits that support with helping her rediscover purpose and begin shaping the next chapter of her life.

CHRIS’S STORY

Finding Opportunity After Service

After 14 years in the Air Force, Chris returned to New York to be closer to his daughter, but the transition home brought depression, isolation, and unhealthy coping habits. Walking into Veterans One Stop Center became a turning point. What started as a simple introduction grew into meaningful connections, renewed confidence, and a support system built through our SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program, peer events, and wellness activities that helped him step outside his comfort zone.

Chris describes VOSC in one word: opportunity - the opportunity to open up, face fears, and grow. We’re proud to stand beside him as he continues moving forward and grateful to provide a place where Veterans can rediscover their strength and begin their next chapter.
